Joomla - System Settings

The global configuration is used to customize the Joomla site with your personal settings. To access system settings, simply follow the following steps −

Step 1 − Go to System → Global Configuration as shown in the following screen.

Step 2: In the Global Configuration section, go to the System tab to get the system settings as shown in the following screen.

Under System Preferences, you can see two options:

  • Logs Folder Path - Gives the path to store the Joomla logs. This path is automatically set when Joomla is installed and should not be changed.

  • Help Server - Provides help information when a button is clicked. It uses the appropriate language for the help desk. It uses the main Joomla help site by default.

Debug Settings

The debug settings contain two options:

  • Debug System is a Joomla debug system that provides debug information by setting it to "Yes". It provides various forms such as diagnostic information, language translations, and SQL errors. The default value is "No".

  • Debug Language - Provides a debug language translation for the Joomla site by setting it to Yes.

Cache settings

The cache settings contain three options:

  • Cache - Indicates whether the cache is enabled or not. This reduces the load that websites use on the web server. The default is "OFF - caching is disabled".

  • Cache Handler - Provides a file-based caching mechanism for cache processing.

  • Cache Time - Specifies the maximum time for a cache file before it is updated. The default cache time is 15 minutes.

The session settings contain two options:

  • Session Time - Defines the session time for users who stay logged in. The default session is 15 minutes.

  • Session Handler - Provides a session handler that tells how the session should be handled after the user has logged into the site. The default value is "Database".

Save - saves your settings.

Save and Close - saves the settings and closes the current screen.
