Joomla - Component Menu

In this chapter, we will study the component menu in Joomla. Click on Components Menu , a dropdown menu will appear as shown below −

Banners

Components → Banners are used to set up banners on the site. When you click on Banners, you see a submenu as shown below −

Let us explore each of the sub menus as follows −

Banners

It is used to edit or add banners on the Joomla website for display.

Click Components → Banners → Banners , the screen shown below will appear.

categories

With the Category Manager, you can create new banner categories or edit existing banner categories.

Click Components → Banners → Categories , the screen shown below will appear.

Below we have mentioned the details of the column heading on the Category Manager - Banner page.

  • Checkbox − Used to select one or more category items by clicking on the box.

  • Status − Defines the status of the category, i.e. "Publish/Unpublish".

  • Title - Specifies the title of the title in the category.

  • Access − Indicates the level of access, i.e. public or private.

  • Language - Specifies the element's language to use.

  • ID is a unique identification number automatically assigned to items.

Checkbox − Used to select one or more category items by clicking on the box.

Status − Defines the status of the category, i.e. "Publish/Unpublish".

Title - Specifies the title of the title in the category.

Access − Indicates the level of access, i.e. public or private.

Language - Specifies the element's language to use.

ID is a unique identification number automatically assigned to items.

The search box on the Category Manager - Banners page is used for very simple searching for category items.

You can search for an item on the Article Manager page by selecting any of the following methods, such as Select Status, Select Max Levels, Select Access, Select Language, or Select Tag .

clients

With Client Manager, you can create a new client banner or edit existing ones.

Click Components → Banners → Clients , the screen shown below will appear.

Below we have mentioned the details of the column heading on the Banner Manager - Clients page.

  • Checkbox − Used to select one or more clients by clicking on the box.

  • Status − Defines the status of the category, i.e. "Publish/Unpublish".

  • Client - Specifies the name of Banner's clients.

  • Contact − Specifies the customer's contact information.

  • Banners - Specifies the number of banners defined for this client.

  • Purchase type - shows how customers buy banners, i.e. annually or monthly. The default is monthly.

  • ID is a unique identification number automatically assigned to items.

The search box on the Banner Manager - Clients page is used to search for client items very easily.

You can search for an item on the Client Banners page by selecting Status or Type .

Tracks

In Tracks, you can view tracking information for a list of existing banners.

Click Components → Banners → Tracks , the screen shown below will appear.

The start date and end date are used to track the banner information during a certain period (for example, the start date is considered 2015-07-06 and the end date is 2015-07-10, during this period of time the banner information will be tracked).

Toolbars

  • Export - Exports banner tracking information to a CSV file.

  • Delete Tracks - Deletes information about the selected tracks.

contacts

It adds customer contact information in Joomla site such as name, address, phone number, email address, etc.

Click Components → Contacts → Contacts , the screen shown below will appear.

Joomla update

This specifies the latest version of Joomla that is being used.

Click Components → Joomla! Update , the screen shown below will appear.

message exchange

Components → Messaging allows you to send and read messages in Joomla. When you click on Messaging, you will see a submenu as shown below.

New private message

It is used to send messages to another Joomla server. You can read, write or delete messages.

Click Components → Messages → New private message , the New private message page will open. We will cover private message in detail in Joomla - Private Messages chapter .

Read private messages

In this section you can read all private messages.

Click Components → Messages → Read private message , the screen shown below will open.

Toolbars

Below we have mentioned the details about the toolbars provided in the Read Private Message.

  • New - Creates a new message.

  • Mark as read - Marks messages as read in this section.

  • Mark as unread - marks messages that have not yet been read.

  • Trash - deletes messages permanently.

  • My Settings - Used to set messages such as blocking incoming messages, sending a new message via email, and automatically clearing a message.

Newsfeeds

This allows you to add a news feed to your Joomla site from other sites.

Click Components → Feeds → Feeds and the Feeds page will open . We will look at news feeds in more detail in the Joomla - Adding News Feeds chapter .

Messages after installation

This allows you to view actionable messages after installation.

Click Components → Messages after installation , the screen shown below will appear.

Here it delivers messages after a successful installation of a Joomla extension or core.

redirect

The redirect manager is used to redirect URLs that do not exist on the website to live web pages.

Click Components → Redirect , the screen shown below will appear.

Details of the column heading on the Redirect Manager page are shown below.

  • Checkbox − It is used to select one or more items by clicking on the box.

  • Expired URL - The URL has been redirected to a website.

  • New URL - Redirects the assigned URL.

  • Referring Page - Redirects referring web pages.

  • Creation Date - Specifies the date the URL was created.

  • 404 Views - Pages were not forwarded after a number of requests were completed.

  • ID is a unique identification number automatically assigned to items.

Search

The search manager lets you see how many searches were performed for each key combination and what the result was for each search.

Smart Search

This improves site search.

  • Checkbox − It is used to select one or more items by clicking on the box.

  • Status − Indicates the state of the items, i.e. Publish/Unpublish.

  • Title - Specifies the title of the title.

  • Type − Indicates the type of the page i.e. article or tag.

  • Last Updated - Indicates the date of the last modification.

Web links

The referenced resource is provided very easily for the site user and can be sorted into categories. It is used to add, edit or remove links to other websites on your Joomla.

Click Components → Web Links → Links to open the Web Links page . We will cover web links in detail in the chapter Joomla - Adding Web Links .
