Joomla - Feed Indication Module

In this chapter, we will look at the feed display module in Joomla. The feed display module is used to display RSS news feeds from a website. This is a way to provide the user with updated content from other resources.

Feed Display Module

Following are the simple steps to add/edit the feed display module in Joomla.

Step 1 − Click Extension → Module Manager in Joomla Admin. You will receive the following screen.

Step 2 − Next, click on the New button and the following screen will appear, select the module type – Feed Feed .

Step 3 - After clicking on the Feed Display , the Module Feed Display will be displayed as shown below.

By default, the Module tab is displayed . The module allows you to display a syndicated channel.

Following are the details of the fields present in the Feed Module Display screen −

  • Title - Displays the title of the module.

  • Feed URL − Specifies the URL of the RSS/RDF/ATOM feed.

  • RTL Feed - Feed is displayed in the RTL direction.

  • Channel Title - Displays the title of the news feed.

  • Channel Description - Shows the entire text of the channel.

  • Channel Image - Displays an associated image with the entire channel.

  • News Feed - Displays the number of RSS items.

  • Item Description - Displays a description of the individual RSS items.

  • Number of words - limits the number of words displayed in the item's description text.

  • Show title - Show the title of the module in the interface.

  • Position - will select the position of the module for display.

  • Status - Displays the status of the article, such as Published, Unpublished, and Trash .

  • Start Publishing − It will publish the feed at the appointed date and time.

  • Finish Publication - The publication will be completed at the scheduled date and time.

  • Access - Allows only selected users from the drop down list such as Guest, Public, Super Users, Registered and Special to view items.

  • Order − Displays a drop down list of all modules present in the position.

  • Language - defines the language of the site. It provides either ALL or English (UK) options.

  • Note. Used to enter some information.

Title - Displays the title of the module.

Feed URL − Specifies the URL of the RSS/RDF/ATOM feed.

Channel Title - Displays the title of the news feed.

Channel Description - Shows the entire text of the channel.

Channel Image - Displays an associated image with the entire channel.

Show title - Show the title of the module in the interface.

Position - will select the position of the module for display.

Status - Displays the status of the article, such as Published, Unpublished, and Trash .

Step 4 − Click on Menu Assignment tab , you will get a screen as shown below.

  • Module Destination - Select an option to view the item from the drop-down list, such as On All Pages, No Pages, On Selected Pages Only, or On All Pages Except Selected .

  • Menu selection - after selecting the option, only the selected pages or all pages except those selected will display all the menu items present in Joomla. This will allow the module to be assigned to some rather than all pages.

Module Destination - Select an option to view the item from the drop-down list, such as On All Pages, No Pages, On Selected Pages Only, or On All Pages Except Selected .

Menu selection - after selecting the option, only the selected pages or all pages except those selected will display all the menu items present in Joomla. This will allow the module to be assigned to some rather than all pages.

Step 5 − The Module Permissions tab contains three actions. It manages the module's permission settings for user groups, as shown in the following screen.

  • Delete - Allows users in the group to delete the content shown on the channel display.

  • Edit - Allows users in the group to edit the content displayed on the channel display.

  • Change State - Allows users in the group to change the state of the content displayed on the channel screen.

Delete - Allows users in the group to delete the content shown on the channel display.

Edit - Allows users in the group to edit the content displayed on the channel display.

Change State - Allows users in the group to change the state of the content displayed on the channel screen.

Step 6 − The Advanced tab is used to make advanced channel display settings. The additional tab screen is shown below.

  • Alternate Layout - Select the layout to be used for this module.

  • Module Class Suffix - Setting this option causes Joomla to either add a new CSS class or change the existing CSS class for the div element for that particular module.

  • Caching - Caching the contents of the module. Use Global is used to cache settings from the global configuration. Caching is not used, whether the contents of the module are cached or not.

  • Cache time - Specify the time in minutes before the module is cached again.

  • Module Tag - Specify the HTML tag for modules.

  • Bootstrap Size - Choose the width of the module embedded in bootstrap.

  • Header tag − Modules use HTML header tags.

  • Header class − Additional CSS headers are added to the header of the module.

  • Module Style - Overrides the template style for its position.

Below are the details of the toolbar function tabs displayed on the channel display.

Save - saves your modules.

Save and Close - Saves modules and closes the current screen.

Save & New - saves modules and opens a new module creation screen.

Cancel - cancel created modules in Joomla.
