Magento - search engine optimization

Magento is one of the search engine friendly systems. It is an essential component of doing business online and an important form of online marketing. To make the online store more visible to potential buyers, the site administrator needs to increase the ranking of the online store in the search results. Customers will love your site if your site is clean, clear, and easy to navigate.

Magento allows you to manage URLs, create images and handle links, which makes it easy to use SEO so that your site can be easily indexed by search engines. After installing Magento and setting up your store, you can start optimizing your site for search engines from the web configuration menu.

The following steps describe how to set up search engine optimization (SEO) in Magento −

Step 1 - Login to your Magento admin panel.

Step 2 − Go to System menu and click on Configuration .

Step 3 − On the left navigation side, go to the General section and click on the web option.

Step 4 − Expand the URL Parameters panel , set the Add store code to URL option to No to prevent store codes from being added to the URL.

Step 5 − In the Search Engine Optimization panel , set the Use Web Server Rewrites option to Yes to create easier-to-read and readable URLs. Click the Save Configuration button to save your changes.

Step 6 − To set the default page title, change the default robots settings, go to System → Configuration and in the General section and click on the Design option .

Step 7 - Expand the HTML -Title panel, write a title and description in the default title and in the default description for your pages, change the Default Bots field to INDEX , FOLLOW so that search engines can index your site and display it in search results. When you're done, click the Save Configuration button .

Step 8 − To avoid duplicates in the URL, go to System → Configuration and in the Directory section select the Directory option .

Step 9 − Expand the Search Engine Optimization option and set the Category Path for Product URLs to None . To prevent Magento from generating duplicate content if you want to show the same product in multiple categories, set both fields of the Canonical Link meta tag to Yes . Once you've finished configuring, click the Save Configuration button .
